What AI assistants say about you

More and more people ask AI assistants like ChatGPT, Gemini or Perplexity to recommend local businesses. These assistants build their answers from what they find on the web: your website, your listings, your reviews. Today you see where you stand.

Ask each one these two questions. Use your own service and area:

  1. "Can you recommend a good {service} in {area}?"
  2. "What do you know about {business name} in {area}?"

For each answer, write down:

  • [ ] Were you mentioned?
  • [ ] Were your details correct: hours, phone, services, area?
  • [ ] What did it say about you, and where did that come from? Many assistants show their sources.

What to do with what you find:

  • Wrong details? Find where they come from (usually an old listing or a mismatch) and fix it at the source. Day 19's list helps.
  • Not mentioned at all? Normal for a new website. It takes time. Keep going with the steps you've done: accurate listings, reviews that describe your work, and clear service pages with prices and real answers.
  • A competitor mentioned? Look at what their website and profiles have that yours doesn't, especially reviews and clear service information.

Be patient and honest. No one can guarantee an AI will recommend you. Be wary of anyone who promises it. Do the basics well, and check again in a month.

Done when: you've asked all three, written down what they said, and noted one fix to make.
